This tech office proposal for Downtown New Orleans transforms an underutilized parking lot into an epicenter of innovation. The ground floor serves the public through stores, dining, and galleries, while also acting as a connection point to the surrounding area. Above, the building is spatially separated into three programmatic components: research, production, and collaboration. The division of these programmatic elements is clear in plan, yet their intersection is achieved in section through the shifting of interior and exterior space within the grid.
The project's "Mystery Boxes" are achieved by manipulating solid and void within three cuboid masses and cloaking them in a facade that assists in shading and rain protection. The screen's seamless patterning is intended to cast shadows reminiscent of the shading provided by New Orleans' famed live oaks.
